I have a special place in my heart for this place. Good solid food, really friendly staff and happy memories with people I love. I've been coming here regularly for a few years now and I plan to continue because I just enjoy the place. The prices are totally reasonable and the portions are solid but not excessive like some places. Ingredients are fresh and cooked well and their menu is good but not overwhelming. If you want a good place to come for breakfast or lunch in JAX beach then I feel you can do much worse.

Ellen's is a staple at the beaches area! The food is good and I have to say I enjoy the simplistic, laid back, casual vibe of the decor. It brings my mindset back to the basics. I definitely recommend!

Breakfast was barely ok...watery eggs and bland grits served with fake butter. The best thing was was the service.

My grandpa used to take us to the original Ellen's Kitchen that was located inside the pharmacy on the corner of 1st and Atlantic. This is actually the 2nd storefront for the famous Beaches diner. When they closed the old pharmacy, Ellen's decided to keep the one diner in S. Jax. Beach. Ellen's hands down has the title for Iconic diner. The only other establishment even in a similar league here at the beach is The Beach Hut. If you want fancy or frilly go somewhere else, but for a good breakfast and lunch at good prices. Come on in and join us. We may even save you some coffee!

I'm so disappointed to write a negative review with this place. I was embarrassed that I took my wife here. After getting so many positive reviews, I anticipated a breakfast place that I would be proud to find in my hometown. *sigh* Things started off pretty bad. A rushed gentleman came up to us "Whatcha want to drink?" Well hello friend, it's nice to be here. But I guess we'll just skip introductions. "I'll have orange juice. Is it fresh squeezed?" "Yes." "Great!" Waiting on my O.J., I look behind my wife and see a Tropicana sticker on a machine that I later see him dispense my O.J. from. C'mon man. That's just wrong. The waitress stops back takes our order. "Know what you want to eat?" Well hello ma'm. I guess you're going to be our server? That's great to know. "No ma'm, we need just another minute." Not acknowledging our response, she turns around and walks away. Food was alright. I had salmon omelet, but not so much flavor though, and it was barely warm. I guess it sat in the window waiting on my wife's plate to be finished. I feel like a lot of my review hinges on the service that we received. I did not feel welcome there and I was struggling with the notion of complaining when we took our ticket to the counter and we got the obligatory "How was everything?" But she never even asked. Very disappointed. I did see young guy actually smiling at his customers that seemed to actually care about his tables. Maybe our experience would have been better, but I doubt that we will ever go there again.

I love going to a solid breakfast diner where you know you can get tasty bacon, well cooked eggs, and delicious pancakes. You can get all three here, as well as a lot of other good dishes. I split an order of awesome pumpkin pancakes and an omelet. My dad got a crab cake Benedict that he said was great. This place is on my short list of good diners in Jacksonville. It's cheap and the food tastes great. And this place is located at 1824 3rd street SOUTH, not north.

Eh... It was OK. I guess when I see a line out the door to a place, my expectations are high. This was my first time and I figured everything was going to fresh and extra tasty. I ordered the malted belgium waffle and paid $1.15 extra for strawberries. (again, figured these would be freshly chopped). The waffle tasted exactly like I could make at home. A little dry and crispy and the strawberries were mushy and sitting in their own juices like they were canned. Haven't been back since...

I feel I have to agree with Brock H on the intro to the restaurant. My wife and I were greeted in much the same fashion as he was, however the waitresses were much more attentive than what was mentioned in his review. I can't say the food was anything other than so-so. I ordered a ham and cheddar scramble with has browns and a biscuit. The scramble was good, but the hash browns were so saturated in cooking oil that I passed on eating them. The biscuit was average. Unfortunately, Ellen's was underwhelming when compared to the other breakfast choices at the beach..

We come to the Jax Beach area a couple times a year to play golf and love to have a filling breakfast that can get us through a round. Ellen's was one of our favorites until now. Went this week and the waiter was rude and inattentive. The hash browns were greasy cold. I had poached eggs with ham and cheese. The cheese was sliced processed cheese, like Kraft single variety and it was just thrown on top like and afterthought. We will not be returning to Ellen's.

Ellen's Kitchen is a charming and tasty Jax Beach institution. Great breakfast, quick and friendly service, and the laid back atmosphere that reminds me why I love my hometown.

Locals breakfast spot...tucked away in Pablo plaza by Goodyear. This is a breakfast spot me and a friend go to when we don't want to wait at those other trendy breakfast places at the beach. The food is always out so quick like in 5 to 10 minutes. I usually get an omelette, crab cake benedict, or a good ol' breakfast special and it's always yummy. The customer service is good too. Check em out when you want a quick breakfast at the beach.

A true neighborhood gem! We've lived nearby for 3yrs and just discovered Ellen's from a friends referral. Plenty of parking, once inside, clean, well lit and plenty of seating. Service was great, coffee was great and the food right on point. I had a spinach, cheddar and mushroom omelette and wifey had 2-2-2 pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. Prices were reasonable. I definitely found my new place for breakfast at the beach!

Was just looking for a place to get some breakfast at the beach and came upon Ellen's. It was exactly what we were looking for. Great little diner, friendly staff, great service and very reasonably priced. BTW - the food was also great! We look forward to stopping in again.

Now I have been going to Ellen's Kitchen since I was barely old enough to work. My Dad an I used to go there for breakfast back when it was in the Silver's Drugstore. Yes Atlantic Blvd was just built and it was close to home or Pete's one. The place was always packed with local working folk like most of southern bell guys and most political folk. The food was always good and to tell you the truth still is. I was looking for a change of pace. I was feeling the waffle me blues. So a waffle I got with a side of eggs and bacon. They call it the early bird special #4. and at this time of the morning it's 4.95 and a cup of coffee. I was out of there with a slim ten spot with a descent tip. The eggs were cooked just as a ordered and waffle was just right. It really hit the spot. I loved the old place even if it had to move 10 miles down the road. I will always hold a special place for Ellen's in my heart for it was just me n Dad for breakfast.

Ellen's kitchen is an ok little diner in Jax Beach. It reminds me of diners in almost every other city to the point that it feels nostalgiac even if you have never been before. There are a handfull of tables and a bar at the back that seats about 10 people. If you are here on a weekday it's packed with old people who probably come very regularly. They don't use the best ingredients, but the prices are in line with that. You would be hard pressed to spend double digits on a breakfast here. The coffee is crapppy, the service isn't overly friendly, but breakfast and coffee will probably run you 7 bucks so it's hard to complain. I didn't like it quite as much as beach hut, but it was probably a little bit cheaper. You could do worse for breakfast.

  • Rob S.

I am not a big breakfast guru when it comes to going out so it takes alot for me to be impressed. . This was just your average breakfast place. Small little local placed crammed full of tables and stuff. Service was weird one guy walked past and was like what are u drinking then a couple mins later a lady was like are u ready.. I got an omelet and it was OK nothing to brag about or I couldn't make myself.. services was fast and food came out even faster.. prices were cheap little under 30 for 3 adults and a kid.. I would probably go back but won't make a huge effort too

This little greasy spoon is fantastic. The service is fast, SO SO friendly, and with a shelf of delicious local hot sauce. I just stopped in for eggs and was extremely well taken care of. If I'm ever in Jacksonville Beach again, I'll definitely coming back.

Ellen's is a definite must-go for breakfast food. It's a lot better than the Beach Hut. I haven't been there for lunch but definitely want to. It's a no frills diner with friendly staff and good food. I highly recommend their specials especially ones with their homemade chili. Very tasty. Ellen's is on my personal list of favorite restaurants.

It's not a mind-blowing breakfast experience, but Ellen's is definitely a mainstay of the beach. Grew up going to breakfast here and finally had the opportunity to take my husband this past weekend after I had some bloodwork done at the Quest Diagnostics in the same center. Ellen's is always busy. but we lucked out and got a booth along the center aisle. I ordered the pumpkin pancake special and a 1/2 order of the hashbrowns with sausage gravy. I should have remembered to order the hashbrowns extra crispy. Oh well, my bad. The pumpkin pancakes were delicious. I don't know why I've been in such a pancake mood lately, but these don't compare to the one's I had at First Watch. Husband ordered The Kent and ate every single bite. While we won't be up this way that often, it was nice to have an alternative to our usual stop at Beach Diner.

This place is always packed! I guess I like it so much that I actually waited in line for 30 min to eat here. I like their eggs benedict, hash, and coffee -- my usually morning fare at restaurants. Again, another good breakfast joint to check out at the beach :)

I stopped in for breakfast with a girlfriend and we loved it. It was affordable, fast and tasty. The cashier wasn't overly friendly but the server took our order quickly, brought out all of our items correctly and everything was cooked well. Loved the local diner atmosphere and you really can't beat the price! I would definitely visit again.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
